Now that a lot of us are working from home, I thought I would share my top tips for working from home whether that be to combat the loneliness or keeping the kids occupied (I’m still trying to work on that one though!)
- Have a comfortable work station.
Having a comfortable workstation is key to being productive throughout the day and making your home working as ‘office like’ as you can. Make sure the chair you have is supportive, the table/desk is big enough for your laptop, phone, notepad etc and of course, space for a brew. - Working Alone.
If you are working alone at home, have the radio on in the background or something not too distracting on the TV quietly, it is nice to hear voices and normal day to day noises to keep the mind occupied - Kids.
Now this one, is a work in progress for me, I’ll admit. So this is plan of action for the week/s ahead.
- Keep the morning routine as normal. Up, breakfast, showers, get dressed. We know children thrive from the routine and we know the world at the moment is hard for them to get their head round (it’s hard for us adults, lets face it) so this is key to getting the day started right.
- Set a plan of action for the day. Perhaps morning, they have drawing, colouring, puzzles and afternoon tv/film time.
- Regular breaks throughout the day will be necessary. Usually when we get home we are just Mum and Dad not ‘Mum the estate agent’ for example, so a three year old doesn’t understand why we can’t have their full attention at all times. Every 30 minutes, read a story, do a puzzle so they feel they still have your attention, even for a short period.
- Take each day at a time and remember, a lot of us are in the same situation, stay positive, you are doing great!
- Stay hydrated and fed!
Although we think this would be a given whilst at home, time can really run away with us when we have our heads in some important work. Keep the kettle filled and the snack tray full. - Have set times to catch up with colleagues.
Having regular contact with your work colleagues is key to keeping the business functioning as normal as possible. Perhaps agree three set times in the day to have a conference call to discuss what has been actioned and what is planned for the following hours or following days to come. - Take time at the end of the day to review.
Spend your last 30 minutes of the day reviewing what has been actioned and is needed for the next day. It is important to stay focused and assess your productivity to enable to next day to be a successful one.
I hope some of these tips help you and remember you’re not in this alone. Our staff members that are currently working from home are contactable and at the other end of the line for any of your property related queries during this period.
