We all know moving home can be one of the most stressful things in life, however there are tips and tricks that can help to make life easier.
Viewings are often arranged at short notice with maybe only 24 hours between your agent contacting you and potential buyers arriving – so how can you make getting ready for a viewing simple?
Have a routine.
Rather than rush around doing lots of small jobs, focus on a few large key ones. Keep a list of jobs and stick to it. Make sure kitchen worktops are clear of washing up and the bathroom is clean – wipes are great for a quick blitz.
Spare towels, duvets and bedspreads.
Called ‘Show Towels’ by home stagers, co-ordinating accessories in a bathroom can really give a lift whilst matching duvets and pillow cases help create a boutique hotel feel in bedrooms. Keep these spares in cupboards ready to whip out for a viewing.
Open windows to let fresh air in.
Create a welcoming feel by making sure curtains are pulled back to let light in and turn on lights and lamps.
Move your car and bins.
Try to make sure there is somewhere for viewers to park, hide your car round the corner if need be.
Involve the kids.
Make tidying up a game with stickers or rewards for the best ‘tidier’. Invest in some storage boxes to make tidying toys easier and quicker. Any large toys or hobby items can even be hidden in the car for the viewing!
Have the heating on.
Nothing creates the right atmosphere better than a lovely warm home, be it with the fire lit or simply having the heating on whilst the viewing takes place.
If possible make sure pets, children even partners are out for the viewing. If you are conducting the viewing, the less crowded and noisy the property is the better.
And finally, be enthusiastic and enjoy selling your home – hopefully the next buyer will care for it as much as you do.
